2016
12/16-21/16: A series of lab celebration of the new year! Secrete Santa, Lab Lunch and... What a year it has been! Looking back 2016: Iris' MCB paper in Feb and Yewei/Hana's paper in July. Asmita got AHA and later Hyang got ADA postdoc fellowships. Ling's multi-PI R01 grant with Arvan, Tsai and Liu funded in July. In the summer, lab moved to Ann Arbor and everybody relocated with the lab at the same time; we started working again in two months. It was an unbelievable year for the lab and it was a tour de force for everybody. I am so thrilled to be a leader and a part of this vibrant group. Bye 2016!
10/28/16: Congratulations to Hyang and Asmita for great presentations at the Department seminar. We made a great first impression to the Department.
10/14/16: Congratulations to Hyang who just received the highly competitive ADA Postdoctoral Fellowship with total cost of nearly $190,000 for three years. This is the first postdoctoral fellowship for the lab! Way to go Hyang!
9/1-10/16: Wellcome three new postdoctoral fellows, Neha, Mauricio and Zhangsen, who joined us from Nepal, Chile and China. We look forward to an exciting journey for all of them in the years ahead.
8/15-19/16: The third week at Ann Arbor, the first genotyping, the first Western blot, the first cell culture... Everything is so new and exciting. We are testing out all the new fancy gadgets! It's really really cool!
8/1-5/16: The first week at Ann Arbor. The lab is unpacked and almost ready to go. Everything is so exciting and new! There are many training courses and unexpected issues, but that's a part of the life. Look forward to more exciting and challenging days ahead. Here is the picture of the crews (missing Hana Kim) that moved to Michigan from Cornell.
7/31/16: Yewei and Hana's B cell paper is accepted by Cell Reports. It was submitted in 4/10/16 (decision received on 5/11/2016), resubmitted on 6/20. Well done and congratulations!
7/29/16: Michigan - here we come!
7/27-29/16: Lab big moving day to UMich Ann Arbor. It's becoming so sad to leave Ithaca, where we have been for the last 9 years, to leave all the wonderful undergrads (Diane, Nir, Soo-Bin and etc), and to leave THE NS3310 Nutrient Metabolism. Nonetheless, we are truly excited about our future in Ann Arbor. Go Qi Lab Go!
7/26/16: The lab had lunch at Banfi followed by the lab meeting presented by two undergrads Nir and Soo-bin. When the undergrads presented Ling with Frozen-themed cake with his picture, he was so moved that there were tears in his eyes. Then there were many celebrations for Yewei/Hana's paper (in Cell Reports), Diane's medical school (Yale), Ling's promotion (to full professor), Diane/Guojun's birthday, and the upcoming graduation for three undergrads (Nir, Laurel and Soo-Bin).
7/26/16: Notes from Ling on the lab move: Thank you all for the wonderful day! I am so grateful for everybody for the love and passion to this lab. It is very gratifying to know that the Qi lab has touched the life and career of many here - I promise that we will keep doing that in UMich. I feel so lucky to have everybody here as a group - as Diane said, "this is a truly terrific group”. To all, thank you all, the past and present Qi lab members, again for a wonderful Cornell experience! I truly truly appreciate it very much! I would never want it in any other way! I wish that we will have another amazing run in UMich, esp with all the new folks joining us.
5/20/16: Congratulations to Asmita for her impressive 0.02% score and funding from AHA pre-doctoral fellowship! Her funding will start from 7/1/16. Her score sets the best record for the lab! The payline for the AHA pre-doctoral fellowship is ~10% this round.
